Who this is for

Turn a short MP4 screen recording or demonstration into a silent looping GIF for an issue, document or presentation. Choose one MP4, select a start point and a short duration, convert, then save and open the GIF. A video container alone does not guarantee that its codec can be decoded.

Inputs and settings

Start time is in seconds; choose a point inside the video. Duration is 0.1–30 seconds. Width choices are 320, 480 and 640 pixels and act as upper bounds: smaller videos are not enlarged. Frame rate choices are 8, 10 and 15 fps. Defaults are start 0, duration 5 seconds, width 480 and 10 fps. Reduce duration first, then width or frame rate when the output is too large.

A checkable example

With a 640 × 360 MP4 lasting at least five seconds, choose start 2, duration 3, width 320 and 10 fps. Expect a silent looping GIF about three seconds long and 320 × 180 pixels, showing the portion from roughly second 2 to second 5. This is a reproducible settings example, not a claim of measured quality or file size. Open the saved GIF and verify the motion, crop-free scaling and readable text; timing can vary slightly with source timestamps.

Limits and recovery

One input up to 250 MiB is accepted; output is limited to 500 MiB, and memory can run out earlier. The initial media program is about 32.4 MB uncompressed (about 31 MiB, including the core and worker resources); actual transfer and caching depend on delivery and browser settings. Encoding is limited to ten minutes per attempt. If loading fails, check the connection and reload. If decoding fails, confirm the source plays and export a compatible MP4; protected media is not supported. If no frames are produced, move the start earlier. Cancel a stalled job and retry a smaller clip.

Local processing and page requests

The conversion runs on your device; the conversion code does not upload selected file contents. Opening the website and loading its conversion libraries still creates network requests. Hosting and any deployed advertising or analytics scripts handle visit data separately, as described in Privacy. Keep your originals and save the results before closing or leaving the page.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the GIF larger or less colourful than the MP4?

GIF uses a limited palette and often needs more bytes than compressed video. It has no audio. Use a shorter clip, smaller width or lower frame rate, or keep video if the destination accepts it.

Does a cached program mean this is guaranteed to work offline?

No. The converter processes your file locally, but the page and required program files must be available. Browser caching is not an offline availability guarantee.
